Senior living
What Are 55+ Communities?
A 55+ community is housing for older adults who live on their own. It is not the same as assisted living.
What you usually get
- A home, condo or apartment you buy or rent
- Shared amenities such as clubhouse, pool or fitness
- Neighbors in the same age group
What you usually do not get
Care services. If you may need help with daily tasks, ask what is available later, or look at independent living or assisted living options.
What to check
- Monthly or yearly community fees and what they cover
- Rules on guests, pets and renting
- Distance to doctors and shops
- How the community handles rising fees
General information only, not financial, legal or insurance advice. Rules, prices and benefits vary by state and by policy. A licensed professional can explain what applies to you.
