Assisted living in Georgia: how it is licensed.
Who licenses assisted living in Georgia, and what to check before you choose.
What Georgia calls it
In Georgia, assisted living is licensed under the term “Personal Care Home (an Assisted Living Community is a personal care home serving 25 or more residents)”. Other states use different names, so it helps to know the exact term when you search.
Who licenses and inspects
Georgia Department of Community Health, Healthcare Facility Regulation Division is the agency that licenses these communities. It is the official place to check a community’s license and inspection history. The state also lists an official facility search tool.
Paying for care

Georgia Medicaid's Elderly and Disabled Waiver Program (CCSP and SOURCE) is for people at a nursing facility level of care and lists alternative living services among its services. The page does not say whether this covers personal care homes or assisted living; eligibility rules apply.

Georgia's Find a Facility site gives access to facility listings, inspection reports and license verification.
Help and complaints
Georgia Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program (Division of Aging Services) supports residents of long term care and their families.
